The following Infrastructure Gateways serve a number of Research Communities, Initiatives, and Projects, each of which having a specific scientific domain and dedicated Virtual Research Environments Virtual Research Environments for Data-Driven Research
AGINFRAPlus Gateway, 15 VREs / VLabs AGINFRA+ aims to exploit core e-infrastructures such as D4Science, EGI.eu, OpenAIRE and EUDAT, towards the evolution of the AGINFRA data infrastructure, so as to provide a sustainable channel addressing adjacent but not fully connected user communities around Agriculture and Food. AGINFRAPlus Gateway helps the project to develop and provide the necessary specifications and components for allowing the rapid and intuitive development of variegating data analysis workflows, where the functionalities for data storage and indexing, algorithm execution, results visualization and deployment are provided by specialized services utilizing cloud based infrastructure(s).
ARIADNEPlus Gateway, 5 VREs / VLabs The ARIADNEplus Project builds on the ARIADNE results, extending and supporting the research community that the previous project created and further developing the relationships with key stakeholders such as the most important European archaeological associations, researchers, heritage professionals, national heritage agencies and so on. The ARIADNEPlus Gateway helps the project to develop a data infrastructure embedded in a cloud that offer the availability of Virtual Research Environments where data-based archaeological research may be carried out. The project will furthermore develop a Linked Data approach to data discovery, making available to users innovative services, such as visualization, annotation, text mining and geo-temporal data management. Innovative pilots will be developed to test and demonstrate the innovation potential of the ARIADNEplus approach.
Blue-Cloud Gateway, 10 VREs / VLabs Blue-Cloud, a thematic EOSC cloud to better understand and manage the ocean sustainability, through a set of five compelling pilot Blue-Cloud demonstrators. It develops and deploys, the Pilot Blue Cloud as a cyber platform bringing together and providing access to: 1) multidisciplinary data from observations and models, 2) analytical tools, 3) computing facilities essential for key blue science use cases.
D4Science.org Gateway, 45 VREs / VLabs D4Science is a Data Infrastructure connecting +7000 scientists in 44 countries, integrating +50 heterogeneous data providers, executing +13,000 models & algorithms/month; providing access to over a billion quality records in repositories worldwide, with 99,7% service availability. D4Science hosts +100 Virtual Research Environments to serve the biological, ecological, environmental, and statistical communities world-wide
DESIRA Gateway, 14 VREs / VLabs DESIRA Gateway helps the project to develop the concept of Socio-Cyber-Physical Systems to advance understanding of the impact of digitisation in rural areas, linking analysis directly to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. DESIRA enrols agriculture, forestry and rural stakeholders in co-developing scenarios and policies in Living Labs established in 20 European Regions, and a Rural Digitisation Forum gathering 250 stakeholders from all Europe.
EOSC-Pillar Gateway, 8 VREs / VLabs EOSC-Pillar gathers representatives of the fast-growing national initiatives for coordinating data infrastructures and services in Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Belgium. The project aims to propose the initiatives for the national coordination of data infrastructures and service recently started in many Member States as one of thefounding pillars for the development and long-term sustainability of the EOSC.
EOSC-Secretariat Gateway, 9 VREs / VLabs EOSCsecretariat.eu addresses the need for the set-up of an operational framework supporting the overall governance of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Led by a lean consortium of experienced and complementary partners, the project maintains a practical approach to address all the specific needs of the coordination structure expected by the EOSC. Furthermore, it retains a high degree of flexibility in its roll-out plan by adopting a co-creation approach, founded on a substantial budget left available for all upcoming, foreseen and unforeseen, challenges of introducing a truly operational open science cloud serving all European stakeholders. EOSCsecretariat.eu is also characterised by being neutral towards the community it is serving and by having a pragmatic approach that is fully dedicated to realising the outcomes of the EOSC design as stated by the Staff Working Document and adopted council conclusions.
GEMex Gateway, 2 VREs / VLabs This gateway is an access point to a Virtual Research Environment (VRE) deployed and operated in the context of GEMex EU-project (Cooperation in Geothermal energy research Europe-Mexico for development of Enhanced Geothermal Systems and Superhot Geothermal Systems) to support participants in data and information management and collaboration. The GEMex dedicated VRE is used as working platform by the project partners to facilitate discussion, collaboration, data sharing and general project management, providing a comprehensive suite of tools, which support a collaborative, standards oriented data publication environment.
HDN Gateway, 1 VRE / VLab Based on the Semantic Web standards for building digital libraries, the Hypermedia Dante Network (HDN) project aims to establish a collaborative environment for a commentary of Dante’s works, with due attention paid to issues of language, style and intertextuality. Using reliable primary sources, the HDN aims at creating a digital library that will cater to a broad range of sophisticated queries, thanks to the use of ontology-based resource descriptions that allow reusing knowledge about existing resources. Indeed, ontologies are efficient means to represent scholarly knowledge about literary texts by using Semantic Web languages such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Primarily intended for scholarly use, the HDN will provide a digital tool that allows the users to access and explore the knowledge collected within the project. This tool will have a user friendly interface and it will be usable for educational purposes. To efficiently express knowledge about the authors cited or referred to in the text of Dante's works, the HDN digital library relies on previous, similar ontology-based applications such as DanteSources, which collects knowledge about Dante’s minor works.
I-GENE Gateway, 1 VRE / VLab [Temporary Description] The I-GENE (In-vivo Gene Editing by NanotransducErs) project pushes the boundaries of efficient and reliable ways to make precise, targeted changes to the genome of living cells that is the long-standing and main goal of gene therapy and biomedical researchers. The I-GENE Gateway and its VREs are a ready to use web-based working environments specifically conceived to provide the I-GENE worldwide community with the needed facilities (services, data, capacity), in line with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable) principles. The VREs provide an environment to foster large-scale collaborations where many potentially geographically distributed co-workers can access and process large amounts of data, also by promoting the public debate to support the design of a new strategy/technology for genome editing, ethically acceptable, sustainable and society desirable.
iMarine Gateway, 10 VREs / VLabs This gateway is an access point to a number of Virtual Research Environments deployed and operated in the context of the past iMarine EU FP7 project to support the Ecosystem Approach to fisheries management and conservation of marine living resources. It empowers practitioners and policy makers from multiple scientific fields such as fisheries, biodiversity and ocean observation by ensuring that otherwise dispersed and heterogeneous data is available to all stakeholder communities through a shared virtual environment that brings together multidisciplinary data sources, supports cross-cutting scientific analysis, and assists communication. It offer specialized functionalities for the management, processing, and visualization of scientific data and textual content.
MOVING Gateway, 2 VREs / VLabs The MOVING Gateway provide its VREs with the capability of supporting collaborative activities to build up guidelines that support the design of public and private policy instruments that boost the resilience of mountainous areas and the provision of public and private goods. This VRE supports a multi-actor approach by inter-connecting the participants of the MOVING Community of Practice.
OpenAIRE-Connect Gateway, 6 VREs / VLabs OpenAIRE-Connect aims to provide technological and social bridges, and deliver services enabling uniform exchange of research artefacts (literature, data, and methods), with semantic links between them, across research communities and content providers in scientific communication. It will introduce and implement the concept of Open Science as a Service (OSaaS) on top of the existing OpenAIRE infrastructure, delivering out-of-the-box, ondemand deployable tools. OpenAIRE-Connect Gateway supports the adoption of an end-user driven approach (via the involvement of 5 prominent research communities), and enrich the portfolio of OpenAIRE infrastructure production services with a Research Community Dashboard Service and a Catch-All Notification Broker Service.
PARTHENOS Gateway, 6 VREs / VLabs PARTHENOS is a H2020 EU Project (Pooling Activities, Resources and Tools for Heritage E-research Networking, Optimization and Synergies). This gateway supports the project strengthening the cohesion of research in the broad sector of Linguistic Studies, Humanities, Cultural Heritage, History, Archaeology and related fields through a thematic cluster of European Research Infrastructures, integrating initiatives, e-infrastructures and other world-class infrastructures, and building bridges between different, although tightly, interrelated fields.
PerformFISH Gateway, 4 VREs / VLabs PerformFISH Gateway serves the EC-funded PerformFISH project officially launched in Volvos, Greece, on 15-16 May 2017 with the aim of exploring and tackling the underlying causes behind the stagnation of the Mediterranean Marine Fish Farming (MMFF) sector. Over the next five years, PerformFISH will work to ensure sustainable growth of the Mediterranean aquaculture industry, based on consumer perceptions and real market requirements. It aims to support fish farms that operate not only in ideal economic and environmental conditions but also in a socially and culturally responsible manner. With 28 partners across the aquaculture value chain, PerformFISH consists of a strong multi-stakeholder partnership, including significant collaboration and support from the five Fish Farming Associations representing 92.8% of EU sea bream and sea bass production.
RISIS2 Gateway, 2 VREs / VLabs The H2020 RISIS2 Project is organised around 3 major dimensions and activities, namely (i) a front end, focusing on users, the ways they access RISIS, work within RISIS and build RISIS user communities. At the core is the RISIS Core facility (WP4). The core facility supports virtual transnational access (WP8) and is accompanied by all the efforts we do to raise awareness, train researchers and interact with them (WP2) and to help them build active user communities (mobilising D4Science VRE, WP7). (ii) A service layer that helps users organise problem based integration of RISIS datasets (with possibilities to complement with their own datasets), this entails the data integration and analysis services (WP5) and methodological support for advanced quantitative methods (WP6) and (iii) a data layer that gathers the core RISIS datasets that we maintain (WP5) and enlarge (WP9), the datasets of interest for which we insure reliability and harmonisation for integration (WP4), and the new datasets that we develop and will progressively open (WP10).
SEComLab Gateway, 2 VREs / VLabs This gateway is an access point to the Virtual Research Environments (VREs) managed by INGV-Pisa (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Sezione di Pisa) for promoting collaborative research in Computational Solid Earth Sciences. The gateway hosts two VREs, for Computational Volcanology and Observational Seismology. The Virtual Research Environments offered by SEComLab provide their users with a web-based working environment offering collaborative access to data and computational tools, with specialized functionalities for the management, processing, and visualization of scientific data and model outputs. VREs also support the production of reports that require several people working together online in the drafting, reviewing and publishing of documents.
SerGenCovid19 Gateway, 2 VREs / VLabs Il CNR, il maggiore ente di ricerca italiano, ha deciso di realizzare lo studio SerGenCovid-19, una raccolta di dati clinici, sieri e materiale genetico su larga scala nella popolazione italiana, che si propone di conoscere meglio la risposta individuale al virus, così che si possano sviluppare protocolli mirati per la gestione dei pazienti affetti da Covid-19.
SoBigData Gateway, 18 VREs / VLabs SoBigData is an integrated ecosystem for ethic-sensitive scientific discoveries and advanced applications of social data mining on the various dimensions of social life. The aim of SoBigData is to establish the common vision and methodology at the basis of the Research Infrastructure activities. SoBigData establishes which is the nature of data science as a new discipline by enlightening which are the specific facets that make it at the same time interdisciplinary and unique when considering methods, theories and applications. Engagement is pursued through inviting prospect members of the community to specific workshops and conferences, putting together academia, industry and the public sector with the goal of exhibiting the key project results and collecting the requirements and feedback of these communities.
TerritoriAperti Gateway, 5 VREs / VLabs Interdisciplinary information system of "Territori Aperti" (see http://territoriaperti.univaq.it) for the prevention and management of natural disasters, as well as for the improvement of the processes of reconstruction and development of the affected areas. The system supports scientific research with the creation of new knowledge and skills through the management and enhancement of data and analytical processes. Territori Aperti, respecting the principles of Open Science, makes available to the communities of interest (citizens, public bodies and scientists) data, methods of analysis, scientific research results, tutorials and educational material for incentivized training also through national and international events .
